On 9 December 2025, we spoke at the 4th CC-Workshop of the ICV-HSG, hosted by Tridonic at its Light Forum in Dornbirn, under the theme Intelligent Build and Buildings: Turning Data into Value. As in the previous editions, the workshop brought the institute together with Vorarlberg companies for an open, cross-industry exchange under the Chatham House Rule, part of the institute’s continued effort to support regional industry through technology transfer: turning research on sensing and data into value for local businesses, from lighting and construction to industrial supply.

Our talk, Ambient Intelligence: Are We There Yet?, asked how far we really are from buildings that sense and adapt to the people inside them, moving from today’s building automation toward genuine ambient intelligence, where the technology recedes into the background. The theme resonated with the room’s mix of sensor, lighting, and building companies, and fed a lively discussion on what is realistic today and what still needs research.
