Optimizing Charging Station Turnover During Peak Demand

Abstract
This project examines the optimization of turnover during peak demand at EV charging stations through various business models which use elements of game theory, such as Nash equilibrium based negotiations between customers or new pricing concepts. Queuing at charging stations is a growing problem due to the increasing popularity of electric vehicles, so new approaches are needed to minimize waiting times and congestion at charging stations without expanding the infrastructure. This paper examines the extent to which business models can be used to optimize the turnover of a charging station. The application of game theory methods, such as negotiation, to achieve a Nash equilibrium, has yielded encouraging results in terms of optimising turnover. For this purpose, a data- driven modeling approach is used to simulate new business models within an agent-based simulation and to evaluate them against a baseline and against each other.
