Abstract

Charging electric vehicles to full capacity generally requires more time than refueling a vehicle with an internal combustion engine, so charging stations are occupied for longer periods and queues become more likely. While this affects passenger cars less, it poses a real challenge for electric trucks, which plan their routes under time and distance constraints shaped by regulatory factors. Current research on queue management for EV charging stations is only partially adapted to the electric-truck use case and does not account for the requirements imposed by route planning. This thesis introduces a System for Interactive Reservation and Queue Management (SIRQ), which lets trucks reserve charging spots during route planning, or start an auction to jump the queue when another truck is willing to cede its spot for a monetary incentive.
